The Nissan Pao is a cult-classic retro JDM three door hatchback that was made between 1989-91. The Pao was created as a specialty show car announced at the Tokyo Motor show in 1987. Nissan didn’t actually produce the car, it was produced by the Nissan speciality group the Pike Factory. They produced a number of cars around those years. These cars are now sibling cars to the Nissan Pao.
Because of it’s retro meets modern style, the Nissan Pao has grown in popularity as the years have gone by. Today, although there are not a lot of these Pao’s left they are garnering a growing following of passionate enthusiasts. Because of the small production run of these cars, as well as the fact that they were produced by Pike, parts for the Nissan Pao are limited and hard to come by. The small but active community of these enthusiasts who gather mostly on Facebook, support each other by trading information, parts, and experience.
For those looking to purchase these cars there are always a few on the market, between Japanese auctions, Bring A Trailer, and Facebook Marketplace.
It's clear that these cars have character, and not just their design. Owning one of these cars is a project even in near-perfect condition. The challenge of the car is exciting, even completing small maintenance procedures is gratifying. The goal of this website is to collect information regarding the upkeep of these cars in the hope that we can keep them around for a while.
Because of the small production number of these cars there are limited resources available to owners of these cars and those who are interested in owning one. The small community of owners on forums and Facebook have put together some resources and talk frequently about how to work on these cars and what is possible with them. Some people have managed to do some pretty amazing things with these cars from basic engine swaps to whole suspension and floor plan swap from a Nissan Silvia’s you can see here.
In the Resources Page you’ll find a collection of pdf’s and other articles that should lead you to find the parts/pieces that you’re looking for.
It’s exciting seeing what can be done with your imagination to these cars. The hope for this site is that it serves as means to further that creativity with these cars.
As a Nissan Pao owner you’ll always be learning what specific things you’ll need to keep the car in running shape. From cosmetic items to mechanical there are thousands of parts for the Nissan Pao that could be needed. Again because of the limited quantity, and the fact this car was only made and sold in Japan makes it tough to buy upkeep parts.
The Parts Page on this website is a collection of quick-links to the specific parts you may need for this car parts for example like correct oil, oil filters, car batteries, terminal cables, etc. The list is always growing as more information on Nissan Pao parts comes out.
